Leitz rose is a balance of sweet front of pallet with a tart finish. It begins with sweet flavours of strawberries and raspberries that build into the body of each mouthful. After which you will find your pallet coated with bright citrus-based freshness and a notably pointed and tart finish.

What Does Leitz Rose Taste Like?
Leitz Rose is a sweet yet tart rose that, even though it is on the sweeter side, brings a crisp mineral finish.
When pouring yourself a glass of the Leitz Rose you’ll find a glass full of:
- Red berries – think strawberries and raspberries;
- Long body and weighted mouthfeel that builds on the sweetness; and
- A crisp tart finish – think tart citrus tang.
Each mouthful starts with some clean berry sweetness that keeps on giving, it then really gives way to what feels like a proper wave of crisp tartness and tang to finish.
While it does have a sweet vs tartness profile – if we’re putting it into one bucket, it would put it in the ‘sweet’ category.
One final thing to note was my bottle was fizzy when I first opened it, but worry not this will dissipate rather quickly. This is usually just a by-product of the bottling process that uses carbon dioxide to get the wine moving from a vat into the bottling system and your bottle!

Who Would Like the Leitz Rose?
Rose drinkers who enjoy strawberry and raspberry flavours and don’t mind some sweetness in their glass will really enjoy this one.
My thoughts are that the crisp and tart finish saves the day here as it pulls away some of the sweetness and leaves you with a nice finish.
If you have been following along you would have likely read the blog where I list my top 3 Rose options for summer which include the:
- De La Tautila Rose;
- Funky Monkey; and
- Vinada Sparkling Rose.
In terms of drinkability, this has more flavour and body than the Funky Monkey but doesn’t quite match what the De La Tautila has been able to achieve with a lower level of sweetness.
Leitz Rose Nutrition.
With only 22.8 calories and 4.4 grams of sugar per 100ml, the Leitz is a healthy alternative to traditional Rose.
Comparing it to other alcohol free rose options, at 4.4g per 100ml, the Leitz is in the middle of the road sugar wise and at the lower end calorie wise when compared to:
- Vinada Sparkling Rose – 5 grams per 100ml.
- Funky Monkey Rose – 1.8 grams per 100ml.
- De La Tautila Rose – 3.5 grams per 100ml.

When to drink Leitz Rose.
Rose is synonymous with those summer holiday vibes where you forget what day it is, aren’t chasing down work leads and you’re just enjoying ‘being’.
The minerally profile of the Leitz Rose (largely due to the quartz, quartzite and slate soil base that makes up the region the Leitz grapes are grown in) lends itself to those warm afternoons when you just want something sweet, but not too sweet.
If I was to pinpoint a time to drink it, it would be with the family over a warm summer evening as an aperitif before dinner. I’d also be pairing it with a soft cheese and some quality quince paste to round things out!
Who Makes Leitz?
The Leitz are German winemakers lead by Johannes Leitz. Leitz create a range of top shelf traditional wine including their own Gran Cru!
In 2018 – 2019 Leitz developed their own EINS-ZWEI-ZERO range of non-alcoholic wines that are crafted from German grown grapes that come from the wine making town in and around Rüdesheim.
The man behind the operation, Johannes Leitz picked up the reigns in 1985 with just 2.6HA of grape growing land after taking the traditional route. This saw Johannes complete his winemaking apprenticeship and then going on to complete a Masters in Viticulture.
Today Leitz have evolved to have over 130HA of grape growing land available at their disposal, a new state of the art cellar and do wine tastings direct at the cellar door – pending covid restrictions!
If you’ve been looking for any reason to travel to Germany once the world opens up, this is as good a reason as any!
The Round Up: Final Thoughts
Leitz is upfront about the challenges with non-alcoholic wine, they go so far as saying, “Of course, an alcohol-free wine never will give the same depth, structure, and weight as a wine with alcohol, but this is extremely close to it and it is simply an alcohol-free wine tasting wine.’.
After working through a whole bottle, I’d have to agree with them. Their representation of a non-alcoholic rose does a good job at replicating the characteristics of a non-alcoholic rose particularly with its tart and crisp finish.
While personally, I prefer something that isn’t as sweet, given this has a good body and the deeper berry flavour profile it gets a 7.5/10 from me.
In essence, the same score as the Funky Monkey Rose, for the complete opposite reason!
