As a general rule in each glass of James Squire Zero, you are going to find flavours of, grainy malt, light floral hops and a light level of bitterness. This is all wrapped up with a mid-level of body and balanced level of carbonation.

The taste profile of the James Squire Zero, as a whole:

• has a rounded flavour profile that you would expect from a lager (aka no IPA sharpness here).
• includes a malty base.
• introduces just enough hops for floral esters to shine through and add some complexity.
• is low in bitterness coming it at only 8 IBU.
• has a lighter and lower amount of body than alcoholic beer.

UPDATE: While when I wrote this article I held the James Squire at the number 1 spot I also noted that the Weihenstephaner was hot on its heels, and since drinking a few more, the Weihenstephaner has taken over the top spot for me. As a whole, the James Squire Zero is a healthy option for beer drinkers as it contains only 70 calories and 2.1 grams of sugar and 15.4 grams of carbs per bottle. The Squire Zero is also completely alcohol-free with a rating of less than 0.5% (less alcohol than a glass of orange juice)

In the past twelve months, lager has flown back on the scene – all those 80’s and 90’s favourites have really taken off again!

The James Squire Zero non-alcoholic lager brings a traditional smelling lager profile and each glass leaves you with:

This aroma profile totally took me back to pot and parma nights and those pub beers before heading into the footy.

I have spoken to many people about the James Squire Zero and it will usually divide the room as the feedback has been mixed.

Typically I get people telling me they:

1. absolutely love the taste and how it presents;
2. think the body is a little lighter than alcoholic beers;
3. people love the fact it is a lager they can drink on a weeknight or when they’re choosing to pass on alcohol; or
4. it does a great job at being a non-alcoholic lager but it is a little too floral for them..

Me personally, it gets a 7.75/10 I really enjoy it and have brewed a few traditional lagers in my time – it does a good job of carrying through the malty base and profile.
