Banks and BurbidgeMash GangMash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah

Born and brewed in the UK, the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah Hazey Pale is one of the first non-alcoholic beers brewed right here in South Australia by the crew over at Big Shed Brewing Co. After having made my way through a 4-pack over the past couple of weeks, I can say Australia – you’re in for a downright treat.

The Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah scores 9.2/10 due to it being the most flavourful & heavily weighted non-alcoholic beer currently on the market. Each glass provides a full & complex flavour profile that is hop led with a citrus base, mango & pine backed freshness before transitioning to a great finishing bitterness.

In bringing you this Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah review, I teamed up with the crew over at Craft Zero who love their non-alcoholic beer as much as I do. I had pegged the Mash Gang to review in March so I was stoked that the Craft Zero crew jumped on board for it – Let’s find out more!

What Does the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah Taste Like?

Dry-hopped to within an inch of its life with Mosaic and Citra Cryo hops, the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah West Coast Hazey Pale brings what might just be the biggest level of flavour to a non-alcoholic beer you’ve ever seen.

I have tried close to 150 non-alcoholic drinks and there is not much that stands in the way of the Yeah Nah Yeah claiming the top step and title for most flavourful non-alcoholic beer.

Trying to squeeze the flavour profile into one simple paragraph is near impossible, but I’ll give it a go, as each glass of hazy unfiltered goodness is likely to treat you to an aroma and taste profile that is crafted from:

  • A huge amount of pine based and mouth filling resiny freshness;
  • a hop profile full of tropical and citrus based hops that cements into your mid palette;
  • big, pointed and bold bitterness that takes over each mouthful; and.
  • dare I say it, a hint of heat in the back of your throat.

Key Tip: To get the most out of this beer, you have to get this into a glass. If you have been around Tipple Zero for a little while, you’ll know my go-to beer glass is my trusty Spiegelau IPA glass that comes as a part of their Craft Beer Tasting Kit. Do your tastebuds a favour and get your brew into this glass!

What I Like

Things to Consider

Huge amount of flavour and bitterness. It is next-level good!

If you’re not the biggest fan of bitterness, be sure to keep in mind that this carries some cracking bitterness.

The hazy pale style is underutilised and I absolutely love that it’s made its way to non-alc.

Drinkers who are looking for a lighter flavour profile might think this is a little ‘big’ on the flavour side.

What are the Body and Mouthfeel Like?

Like we touched on right above, the body and mouthfeel of the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah are an absolute stand out when compared to other non-alcoholic beers currently on the market. In fact, this a can of the Yeah Nah Yeah will leave you feeling like you’ve downed a small meal.

To give you some context as to how good this brew is, I found that the Mash Gang has other really well-weighted and common alcohol-free beer options (such as the Vandestreek Playground IPA and Athletic Brewing Co. Run Wild IPA) covered off for depth and complexity of flavour and mouthfeel.

That is no easy feat and not a claim I make lightly, I have a feeling this is going to take some beating so for the moment this scores full marks for body and mouthfeel.

What Other Alternatives Can I Try?

Like I’ve touched on a little bit recently, I have been absolutely loving the world of non-alcoholic Pale Ales lately. Whether that be IPA, XPA, or straight up Pale Ale!

If you’re looking for other options I have put together a full end to end guide of non-alcoholic pale ales that you can find here, or you can read a few of my reviews down below to get more of a feel for what other alternatives have in store.:

Who Should Drink The Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah?

The Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah is a perfect alternative to traditional alcoholic pales:

  • if you’re the type of non-alcoholic beer drinker that has been trying alcohol-free beer without anything really ‘hitting the nail on the head’;
  • if you’re just coming to the world of non-alcoholic pales after drinking traditional pales; or
  • looking for a heavy, weighted and fully loaded non-alcoholic beer that will leave you satisfied with the level of flavour and not wanting more from it in terms of flavour.

Rating the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah

If you saw my Shop with me video over at Craft Zero, you’ll know that I have been trying this beer for the past month at the time of writing this which is a perfect amount of time to be able to get entirely acquainted with the ins and outs of all things Yeah Nah Yeah!

The key standouts are definitely the depth and complexity of flavour and the thing I’m mindful of is that not every beer drinker is going to be supremely keen on a heavy and big beer that may impact some peoples ‘drinkability’ score. After all, we’re not robots and all our tastebuds differ.

But as always if I’m reporting ‘too much flavour’ as the thing to be mindful of, you’re likely to be onto a winner.

My full breakdown of taste, body and drinkability is all listed below and given I haven’t been able to land on a nutrition number set I’ve landed it with a mid-range five out of ten to be fair to all other options which have real-world data.

The Round-Up: Final Thoughts

If you’ve come this far you’ll have realised that the Mash Gang Yeah Nah Yeah is nothing short of an absolute experience due to its big bodied, bold, bright and plain outrageously obtuse amount of flavour.

All this means:

  • It takes the crown for best non-alcoholic beer from the Vandestreek Playground IPA;
  • it deserves to be enjoyed entirely on its own in all of its glory; and
  • given the time, attention and glass it deserves!

I’ve been really enjoying this and find it starting to filter into people’s hands as this has recently also has arrived in my latest Craft Zero Beer box (keep an eye out for the content that I’ll be pulling together some content for over the next little while).

If you haven’t got your hands on this beer yet, or you simply haven’t got any left, there is nothing left to wait for – check out the links below and pick yourself up some glassware, some beer and be prepared to be wowed!
